i started this post on my phone while laying in bed one night. i couldn't fall asleep, but i couldn't be anywhere else because i was next to my honey. who felt like he was having a seizure--but really that's just how he falls asleep.
seriously terrifying at times--let me tell you. if his arm's around me and all the sudden it squeezes tight without warning?? heart attack. but that's beside the point.
we had just had another fit of pillow fights prayers and laughter, that happens pretty much every time he isn't so exhausted he starts seizing while i'm praying. meaning he's just awake enough to say amen, but probably has no idea what i prayed for. it kills me so much i just laugh to myself and roll over. and say another silent "thank you" for having this love in my life.
don't worry. he prays every other night. and he's usually awake enough to know what he's saying.
and you guessed it. this is going to be aaaaaall sorts of mushy. and really would probably be better reserved for a birthday or father's day or something more specific and monumental. but it's happening today. because on july 1st i'm just as grateful for jordan defriez brough as may 4th and because i can.
i don't know why deep thoughts come in the nighttime. or why you think your thoughts are so deep...maybe the relaxed and calm feeling that comes with falling asleep makes ideas resonate deeper with your soul than the lighthearted feel of wakefulness.

because right now, all i can think as i read over those notes i posted to be saved in blogger are, "didn't i have anything better...?" and i did. i had a whole plethora of fabulous thoughts about best friends and what jordan is to me, but i only typed out key words because i was falling asleep but wanted to remember so badly what i was thinking so i could write this tribute to my honey. so that maybe one day he'll really understand just how much he means to me. in case telling him every night isn't getting through.

he is the biggest goofball. and sure, he can take it too far, go over the edge, whatever. but who doesn't? he can get me laughing harder than almost anyone i know. next time you see him, ask him to talk to you in his chinese accent.
i die.

he works so
so hard. at everything he does. he's basically a celebrity at the gym because he can lift so much/do so well. he's got 4-6 special projects to get done at work from his boss's boss's boss and someone from corporate and someone else's wife's dog. and he always always finishes his work. even if it means having fhe at the office building here in town.

he humors me. in practically everything. i.e., the 7 pillows that reside on our couch. also i.e., our whole apartment. also i.e., my bb gun. also also i.e., all of our camping gear. etc etc etc. if i have an idea he will go with me. actually, sitting at his soccer game friday night, there was a family watching on a blanket close to julie and i (MIL came to visit! we had a blast. more on that later. probably) and a little overweight girl was trying to jump to get a leaf. her mom and one of the kids girlfriends were sitting watching her telling her to stop it. she'll never get it. come here. you can't do it.
and i just thought...what...!? how sad is that... to always be told you can't do something. and i am so blessed to come from an upbringing that my parents told me i
can. and now even more so with my husband who tells me
I CAN!!! seriously. he pushes me to do and be my best, and i have become so much more outgoing/willing to risk it/willing to try anything since being married, and i love that about myself.

I had also finished this post, but when i posted it, it only saved to this point. And that ticked me off. so. ya know. here's a picture of jordan and nick showing off their thighs. nick was drunk. jordan was not.

a best friend is someone who makes you the best version of yourself.
confident- i know i have his unfailing support. so i'm not afraid to try anything, because i know even if i fail, he's right there behind me, cheering me on. (i.e., food, crossfit, travel, talking to people, etc etc etc) and if i succeed, he's right next to me reveling in the accomplishment of success.
silly- he lets me be myself. like, my total self. my total, crazy, sometimes juvenile, stream of consciousness, only make sense half the time, unreasonable but let's talk it through, insufferable self. and he loves me anyway. and he's crazy with me. i swear 3/4 of the time he's home i'm laughing til i cry. oh--and if you've ever talked to him and heard him come up with an analogy (tell me if i'm using these literary words wrong...i'm pretty sure i failed that part of honors english..): "wearing new socks is like... walking on baby seals" or something tastes like heaven dancing on your tongue--or WHATEVER the heck his crazy brain comes up with. tell me that doesn't make you laugh. crazy kid. and he lets me do pretty much anything. like draw on his scars. or take pictures of us all the time. or buy me a bb gun so i can shoot at obnoxious crows. or ya know. just whatever. he's the best.
easy going- anything is like water off a duck's back! he loses a soccer game, okay--frustrated for a few minutes but then he's fine. washer's broken? let's fix it. i may as well fly with this bird analogy and say that he rarely lets anything ruffle his feathers! (so many puns) oh that's awful. i'm sorry. so even though i can still road rage with the best of them, i think i do better letting the small (and big) things go-- i am able to look objectively at a situation, and if there's anything i can do i fix it--i move. if i'm helpless, i accept that and move on. big shout out to my mom, too for teaching me one of her favorite sayings that stuck in the back of my brain always "if you don't like something- change it. if you can't change it- change the way you think about it." thanks, mom. and thanks, jordan for helping reinforce that.
punctual- jordan hates being late. like--hates it. if there is one thing that will make him angrier faster than anything else it's running late to anything. and no matter how much i try my best to feel presentable before we go out the door he'll be pacing impatiently and i look down and try to hustle to the car and then the whole drive there he's so grumpy. so. i've learned! to avoid a grumpy husband--get your fanny ready early! and it's still a work in progress. (i swear if i'm by myself and i have to get somewhere--i'm ready TOO early--like a half hour early. but if we're together, i just can't get my schmidt together! wtf?) we still can't seem to get to church consistently 5 mins early, or to the movie theater on time to meet friends...but we get there. :) and i have been more conscious about my punctuality. i'm working on it.
hooo-eee! ^ i think that picture is sooo attractive. my hubby is hott stuff. man. and actually it's a perfect representation of everything--we went to dinner at a ward member's house. people that we aren't necessarily close with. but they invited us. so we went! and there was an older, funnier couple there too, that after dinner they both wanted to arm wrestle jordan. and you know he did it! and he just laughed and laughed the whole time. maybe you just had to be there. but i feel like it so perfectly encompasses his best qualities. he's always so quick to laugh. and i love that.
outgoing- work buddy bbq? we are there. new people at the gym? he's up next to them shaking their hand and introducing himself. someone dares us to try something new? he's first in line. i love that. i feel like i've become so much more open and adventurous since marrying this cutie--and it makes life that much more fun! not that i wasn't open or adventurous or life wasn't fun beforehand...but it's just MORE so now, and having someone right there next to you every step of the way makes it that much more fun! it's so great.
willing to do anything at a moments notice- we'll pretty much drop anything for an adventure. (aka press pause on netflix to go play games at the park.... hahahaha) but he's always willing to help out/welcome someone in last minute. someone needs a place to stay? you need a meal? SUUURE! come on in! missionaries need a ride? you got it. seriously. you need anything--we are there. and i love that people know they can count on us.

optimistic- kid can't give you empathy worth beans. we've been working on that. but boy howdy will he find you any way a situation could be worse/point out that we don't have it that bad! but jordan--i just want to be angry for a minute! but it's not flooding! okay, okay, whatever. i feel like i have always been decent at pointing out the silver lining--but jordan puts me to shame. and although it's frustrating when i just am really really mad about my bruised knees and want some sympathy--you can't complain about having someone who will always help cheer you up (or at least give you another side to look at things. whether or not it improves the moood..... ha).
all i'm trying to say is, i feel like i'm a better person than i was 3 years ago. his best qualities have rubbed off on me and i've only improved. and i'd like to think i've rubbed off on him a little. and we're only going up from here!
sooo, yeah. i've just been feeling extra grateful for my honey. and this is my blog. i do what i want!
shout out to jordan defriez brough for being the meat to my paleo. (his words, not mine. he kills me). love you bebe!!
